# Best Alpha Vantage Alternatives for Bulk Historical Prices

> The best Alpha Vantage alternatives for bulk historical stock prices: Massive, EODHD, FMP, Tiingo, Databento and Snowflake, with prices and how each does bulk.

*By [Fruit Stand Team](https://fruitstand.dev/about.md) · November 5, 2026 · Comparisons*

The best Alpha Vantage alternatives for bulk historical prices return every
ticker at once instead of one per request. Massive's free plan gives all US
stocks for a date in one call, EODHD and FMP sell per-day bulk endpoints,
Tiingo is the closest per-ticker swap, Databento has official closes, and a
Snowflake Marketplace listing skips downloading entirely.

Below is each alternative, what bulk looks like there, what it costs, and
which fits which job.

## Each alternative in detail

### Massive (best free bulk option)

Massive's daily market summary endpoint returns open, high, low, close,
volume and VWAP for every US stock on one date, in a single request. It's
included in all stock plans, including the free one, which allows 5 calls a
minute and 2 years of history. That's about 500 trading days, so a 2-year
backfill takes under two hours on the free plan.

Paid plans remove the call limit and add flat files: Starter is $29/month for
5 years, Developer $79 for 10 years, and Advanced \$199 for 20+ years. All
four are for individual use; business plans are priced separately. The
daily summary is adjusted for splits by default, not dividends.

### EODHD (best for daily bulk updates)

EODHD's bulk endpoint returns a whole exchange's end-of-day prices for one
date, as CSV or JSON, with matching bulk endpoints for splits and dividends.
It covers US and global exchanges back to 1990, from \$19.99/month on its
personal plan. Bulk isn't on the free plan.

Each bulk request counts as 100 API calls, and history is one day per
request. Thirty years is about 7,500 requests, or 750,000 calls, which takes
days at a 100,000-calls-a-day limit. After that, staying current is one
request a day.

### FMP (prices plus fundamentals)

Financial Modeling Prep is the closest match to Alpha Vantage's breadth:
prices, fundamentals, news and calendars in one API. Its free plan allows
250 calls a day. Starter is $29/month with 300 calls a minute and 5 years of
history, and Premium is $69 with 30+ years. Bulk and batch delivery, including
end-of-day prices for all symbols on a date, is only on Ultimate, at
$139/month or $99 billed yearly. Displaying or redistributing FMP data needs
a separate license agreement.

### Tiingo (closest per-ticker swap)

If you liked Alpha Vantage's one-ticker requests and only outgrew the
limits, Tiingo is the smallest change. Its end-of-day endpoint is one ticker
per request, like Alpha Vantage's, and returns raw and adjusted prices plus
dividends and split factors, with 30+ years of history. The free plan
covers 500 unique symbols a month, 50 requests an hour and 1,000 a day, and
paid plans are $30/month for individuals or $50 for internal business use.
It has no multi-ticker endpoint, and even paid plans are internal use only.

### Databento (official closes)

Databento sells official consolidated daily bars from Nasdaq's NLS+ feed for
all US stocks and ETFs. It's pay-as-you-go by the gigabyte, with $125 of free
credits for new users, or $199/month. History is 8+ years, so it suits
recent-period research better than long backtests.

### Stooq (free, personal use)

Stooq publishes one ZIP of daily prices for US securities, 595 MB as text.
It's free, but personal use only, and you parse and load the files yourself.
Fine for a one-off project, not for anything you'd ship.

### Fruit Stand on the Snowflake Marketplace (best for bulk and research)

If your data already lives in Snowflake, a Marketplace listing replaces the
backfill and the daily refresh with a table you query. Fruit Stand's
[Historical Stock Prices](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZTG3LNFA)
covers US stocks, ETFs and mutual funds back to each security's first
trading day, with raw and adjusted OHLC refreshed daily. For research,
that means the whole market is one query, securities that stopped trading
keep their history, and adjusted prices are restated for every split and
dividend. It's \$100/month after a 30-day trial. The catch: it's Snowflake only, with daily data only.
[Stock Price Datasets on the Snowflake Marketplace,
Compared](https://fruitstand.dev/blog/stock-price-datasets-snowflake-marketplace.md) covers the other
listings.

## Why people switch from Alpha Vantage

Alpha Vantage is a good general API, but bulk history isn't what it's built
for:

* **25 requests a day on the free plan**, per its support page, with only the
  latest 100 days per daily-price request. Full history (`outputsize=full`)
  and adjusted prices are premium only.
* **One ticker per request, even on paid plans.** Its only multi-ticker
  endpoint returns current quotes, not history. On the \$49.99/month plan (75
  requests a minute), pulling the 14,512 US stocks and ETFs on its own list
  takes over 3 hours, and staying current takes another 14,512 requests every
  day.

It's still a fine choice for a handful of tickers alongside forex, crypto,
fundamentals and indicators, or for its `LISTING_STATUS` endpoint, which
returns active or delisted tickers as of any date since 2010.

## Which should you choose?

* **Free, full market, recent years:** Massive's free plan, one request per
  date.
* **Your own database, updated daily:** EODHD, or Massive's flat files.
  Budget for re-adjusting history when splits and dividends post.
* **Prices and fundamentals together:** FMP, on Ultimate if you need bulk.
* **A few hundred tickers, adjusted:** Tiingo.
* **Official closes:** Databento.
* **Bulk history and research in Snowflake:** Fruit Stand's Historical Stock
  Prices listing, with nothing to load.

## Every US ticker in one query

With the Historical Stock Prices listing, 30 years of daily prices for every
US stock and ETF is a filter, not a backfill:

```sql theme={null}
select p.code, p.date, p.open, p.high, p.low, p.close,
       p.adjusted_close, p.volume
from security_price_history_vw p
join security_vw s
    on s.code = p.code and s.exchange_code = p.exchange_code
where p.exchange_code = 'US'
  and s.asset_class in ('stock', 'etf')
  and p.date >= dateadd(year, -30, current_date);
```

On November 5, 2026 that covered 23,956 tickers and 57.1 million rows,
through November 4. It includes OTC stocks and securities that have stopped
trading, and `adjusted_close` is restated for every split and dividend.
