# Best IEX Cloud Alternatives for Historical Stock Prices

> IEX Cloud shut down in August 2024. The best alternatives for historical stock prices: viaNexus, Intrinio, Tiingo, Massive, EODHD and Snowflake, with prices.

*By [Fruit Stand Team](https://fruitstand.dev/about.md) · November 6, 2026 · Comparisons*

IEX Cloud shut down on August 31, 2024. The closest replacement is viaNexus,
built by former IEX Cloud leaders, whose historical prices use IEX Cloud's
field names. Intrinio was IEX's official referral, Tiingo is the cheapest
per-ticker API, Massive and EODHD return the whole market per request, and a
Snowflake Marketplace listing replaces the API with SQL.

Below is what happened to IEX Cloud, how each alternative maps to what you
used it for, and what each costs.

## What happened to IEX Cloud

IEX Group told customers on May 31, 2024 that it was retiring every IEX
Cloud product, and on August 31, 2024 the API, its data feeds and user
accounts were switched off. IEX said it was refocusing on its stock
exchange, which still runs. Departing customers were referred to Intrinio.

Days before the shutdown, former IEX Cloud executives bought the platform's
assets and started a new company, Blue Sky Data, with a temporary site live
on September 3, 2024. It now runs as
[viaNexus](https://www.blueskyapi.com/). None of the top-ranking "IEX Cloud
alternatives" pages we read mention it.

## The alternatives at a glance

| Option | Closest to IEX Cloud in | History | Price | Display in your app | Main catch |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| [viaNexus](https://console.vianexus.com/catalog) | Same field names; up to 2,000 symbols per request | US and 100+ international exchanges since 2005 | Membership $10 to $30/month, plus the dataset | Redistribution rights on every membership plan | Dataset price shows only after you pick a plan; attribution required |
| [Intrinio](https://intrinio.com/pricing) | IEX's official referral; adjusted and unadjusted prices | 50+ years | $150/month (personal); $333/month to start (commercial) | On the commercial plan | The priciest option here |
| [Tiingo](https://www.tiingo.com/about/pricing) | Simple per-ticker requests at a low price | 30+ years | Free; $30/month individual, $50 internal business | No; internal use only | One ticker per request |
| [Massive](https://massive.com/pricing) | Whole-market requests | 2 years free; 5, 10 or 20+ paid | Free; $29, $79 or \$199/month | Individual plans don't; business plans priced separately | Daily summary is split-adjusted only |
| [EODHD](https://eodhd.com/financial-apis/bulk-api-eod-splits-dividends) | Whole-exchange requests | Back to 1990 | From \$19.99/month (personal) | On commercial plans | Each bulk request costs 100 API calls |
| [Databento](https://databento.com/docs/examples/equities/closing-prices) | Usage-based pricing | 8+ years | Pay as you go, or \$199/month | Licensed in its portal | Short history |
| [Fruit Stand Historical Stock Prices](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZTG3LNFA) | Raw and adjusted OHLC, for every ticker in one query | Back to each listing date, from 1962 | \$100/month after a 30-day trial | Per the listing terms | Snowflake only; no delisted securities |

## Mapping what you used IEX Cloud for

| If you relied on IEX Cloud for | Closest replacement |
| - | - |
| `HISTORICAL_PRICES` fields (`priceDate`, `fclose`, `uclose`) | viaNexus keeps the same names. Elsewhere you rename fields, or alias them in SQL (shown below). |
| Batch requests of up to 100 symbols | viaNexus takes 2,000 per request. Massive returns every US stock for a date, and EODHD a whole exchange. Tiingo is one ticker per request. |
| Paying per message used | Databento bills by the data you pull. The rest are flat monthly plans. |
| Showing prices in a customer-facing app | viaNexus, Intrinio's commercial plan, EODHD's commercial plans or Databento. Tiingo's and Massive's listed plans aren't licensed for it. |
| 15 years of daily history | All of them except Databento (8+ years) and Massive below its \$199 plan. |

## Each alternative in detail

### viaNexus (closest drop-in)

viaNexus is the platform IEX Cloud's former leaders built from its assets,
and its Global EOD Equity Prices dataset returns the same field names IEX
Cloud's `HISTORICAL_PRICES` did: `priceDate`, `fclose`, `uclose` and the
rest, with `f` for fully adjusted, `u` for unadjusted, and unprefixed fields
split-adjusted only. Code written against IEX Cloud's response shape
needs the fewest changes here. A request takes up to 2,000 comma-separated
symbols, and the data, sourced from EDI, covers US and 100+ international
exchanges since 2005.

Pricing is a membership plus datasets. Memberships run $10/month (100
symbols), $15 (500), $20 (1,000) and $30 (unlimited), each listing
redistribution rights, and historical prices are a premium dataset priced
on top once you pick a plan. There's a 14-day free trial, and apps that
display the data must credit viaNexus.

### Intrinio (IEX's official referral)

IEX referred its departing customers to Intrinio, and Intrinio offered to
match them to a similar plan at a similar price. Its EOD Historical Stock
Prices cover 50+ years, with adjusted and unadjusted prices and adjustment
factors, by API, CSV, S3 or Snowflake. The $150/month Individual plan is
personal use only, with no display. Commercial use and display start at
$333/month on the Startup plan, rising to \$999 after a year.

### Tiingo (cheapest per-ticker API)

If you used IEX Cloud for a few hundred tickers, Tiingo is the cheapest
like-for-like swap: one ticker per request, raw and adjusted prices with
dividends and split factors, and 30+ years of history. Free covers 500
symbols a month. Paid plans are $30/month for individuals and $50 for
internal business use, and none allow display to outside users.

### Massive and EODHD (whole market per request)

Both replace IEX Cloud's 100-symbol batches with bigger ones. Massive's
daily market summary returns every US stock for a date on all plans,
including free, and EODHD's bulk endpoint returns a whole exchange for a
date from \$19.99/month. [Best Alpha Vantage Alternatives for Bulk Historical
Prices](https://fruitstand.dev/blog/alpha-vantage-alternatives-bulk-historical-prices.md) covers
their plans, limits and backfill times in detail, alongside FMP.

### Databento (usage-based pricing)

IEX Cloud billed by messages used. Databento is the closest to that model,
pay as you go by the gigabyte with $125 of credits for new users, or
$199/month. It sells official consolidated daily bars for US stocks and
ETFs, with 8+ years of history, and published its own IEX Cloud migration
guide.

### Fruit Stand on the Snowflake Marketplace (best for research in SQL)

If you pulled IEX Cloud data into a warehouse anyway, a Marketplace listing
skips the API. Fruit Stand's [Historical Stock
Prices](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZTG3LNFA) covers
US stocks, ETFs and mutual funds back to each security's first trading day,
with raw and adjusted OHLC refreshed daily, for \$100/month after a 30-day
trial. It's Snowflake only, and it doesn't include delisted securities, so
long backtests carry survivorship bias. For delisted coverage, see [Stock
Price Datasets on the Snowflake Marketplace,
Compared](https://fruitstand.dev/blog/stock-price-datasets-snowflake-marketplace.md).

## What about IEX's own free data?

The IEX exchange still publishes its HIST data for free, a day after each
trading day. It isn't a substitute for IEX Cloud's prices: the files are
multi-gigabyte pcap captures of IEX's own TOPS and DEEP feeds, so they cover
only trades on IEX, a small share of US volume, unadjusted and with no daily
bars. They suit market-microstructure research, not price history.

## Which should you choose?

* **Least code to change:** viaNexus, with IEX Cloud's field names.
* **A commercial app that shows prices:** viaNexus, or Intrinio's Startup
  plan.
* **A few hundred tickers, cheap:** Tiingo.
* **Every ticker, refreshed daily, in your own database:** Massive or
  EODHD.
* **Usage-based billing like IEX Cloud's:** Databento.
* **Research in SQL with nothing to load:** Fruit Stand's Historical Stock
  Prices listing in Snowflake.

Moving off Yahoo instead? [Is yfinance Still
Usable?](https://fruitstand.dev/blog/is-yfinance-still-usable.md) covers that. For more bulk sources,

Bulk](https://fruitstand.dev/blog/end-of-day-prices-every-us-stock-bulk.md).

## IEX Cloud's field names in SQL

IEX Cloud's daily history reached back 15 years. With the Historical Stock
Prices listing, that window for every US stock and ETF is one query, with
the columns aliased to IEX Cloud's names so downstream code can keep them:

```sql theme={null}
select p.code           as symbol,
       p.date           as "priceDate",
       p.open           as uopen,
       p.high           as uhigh,
       p.low            as ulow,
       p.close          as uclose,
       p.adjusted_open  as fopen,
       p.adjusted_high  as fhigh,
       p.adjusted_low   as flow,
       p.adjusted_close as fclose,
       p.volume
from security_price_history_vw p
join security_vw s
    on s.code = p.code and s.exchange_code = p.exchange_code
where p.exchange_code = 'US'
  and s.asset_class in ('stock', 'etf')
  and p.date >= dateadd(year, -15, current_date);
```

On November 6, 2026 that returned 43.6 million rows for 23,967 tickers,
from November 7, 2011 through November 5, 2026. For Apple on August 28,
2020, the last day before its 4-for-1 split, `uclose` is 499.23 and `fclose`
is 120.96. `volume` is split-adjusted, like IEX Cloud's unprefixed
`volume`. The listing has no split-only prices, so there's no match for IEX
Cloud's unprefixed `close`.
