# How Snowflake Marketplace Pricing Works for Data Buyers

> How Snowflake Marketplace pricing works: listing fees vs. your compute, usage-based and subscription plans, free trials, who can buy, payment and cancelling.

*By [Fruit Stand Team](https://fruitstand.dev/about.md) · November 3, 2026 · Guides*

Snowflake Marketplace data costs two things: the **listing's price**, set by
the provider, and **your own compute** for the queries you run. Free listings
cost only compute. Paid listings are billed through Snowflake, either by
usage (per query or a monthly fee) or as a subscription. Shared data adds no
storage charge.

Below is how each part works, from Snowflake's documentation as of November
2, 2026, and what to check before you click Get.

## What you pay for

| Cost | Who sets it | How it's billed |
| - | - | - |
| Listing price | The provider | On a separate Marketplace invoice from Snowflake, in US dollars |
| Compute | You, by the warehouse you use | Your normal Snowflake credits, like any other query |
| Storage | Nobody | Shared data isn't copied into your account, so there's no storage charge |
| Cross-region delivery | The provider | When a listing is replicated to your cloud region, the provider pays for it |

The compute part is usually small for reading a listing. An X-Small
warehouse uses 1 credit an hour, billed per second after the first minute,
so a query that filters a few tickers or series runs for seconds. Large
scans, such as every security over 30 years, cost more, the same as on your
own tables.

## The pricing plans

Each paid listing has one pricing plan, either usage-based or
subscription.

**Usage-based** plans bill monthly in arrears, only for months with usage.
They can combine:

* **Per query:** a fixed price for each query that reads the paid data.
Snowflake's docs note a query can be billable even if it returns no rows.
* **Monthly fee:** a fixed fee for each calendar month in which you query the
listing at all. It isn't prorated.
* **Billable events:** for listings that share an application, charges for
  events such as procedure calls.

Usage-based plans with per-query or event charges must set a maximum monthly
charge. Once you reach it, further usage that month is free.

**Subscription** plans bill up front for a term of 1 to 36 months. Recurring
subscriptions renew automatically; one-time ones end. Providers can split a
subscription into installments.

**By request** listings show no price. You contact the provider, and they
send a private offer with negotiated terms, which you accept in Snowflake.

## Free trials

Most public paid listings offer a free trial, and Snowflake's
[paid listings pricing models](https://docs.snowflake.com/en/collaboration/provider-listings-pricing-model)
documentation says listings offered publicly on the Marketplace require one.
By-request listings usually don't have a self-serve trial. Where there is
one, the provider chooses its type and length, so check the listing: some trials cover the full dataset, others a sample. During a trial,
queries are metered but not charged. When the trial ends, you either buy the
listing or lose access to its paid data.

Fruit Stand's four listings each have a 30-day free trial:

| Listing | After the trial |
| - | - |
| [Historical Stock Prices](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZTG3LNFA) | \$100/month |
| [FRED Series](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZ40XYNE) | \$150/month |
| [Fund Returns](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZTG3LLO9) | \$250/month (the trial covers a sample of funds) |
| [Earnings Call Transcripts](https://app.snowflake.com/marketplace/listing/GZTYZ40XYU5) | \$50/month |

## Who can buy, and how you pay

* **Accepting the terms.** Before anyone in your organization buys a paid
listing, an organization administrator (ORGADMIN) accepts Snowflake's
combined Provider and Consumer Terms once.
* **Buying.** ACCOUNTADMIN can buy, or any role an ACCOUNTADMIN grants the
  PURCHASE DATA EXCHANGE LISTING privilege.
* **Paying.** Credit card (charged automatically, with no transaction fees),
bank transfer against the invoice, or Marketplace Capacity Drawdown, which
uses part of a committed Snowflake capacity contract if your organization
is enrolled and the listing supports it.
* **Invoices.** Marketplace invoices are separate from your other Snowflake
invoices, in US dollars, with tax based on your billing address. They're
under Admin > Billing > Marketplace billing.

## Cancelling

In Snowsight, go to Marketplace, then Manage Purchase, and choose Cancel
Purchase. You need ACCOUNTADMIN or a role that owns the database the listing
created. Check the cancellation date shown, which is when access ends. For a
billing question, contact the provider first, using the support email on the
listing.

## What to check before you click Get

1. **The plan type.** Per-query pricing suits occasional use; a flat monthly
fee suits dashboards and pipelines that query every day.
2. **The trial.** How long it is, and whether it covers the full data.
3. **Your compute.** Which warehouse will read the listing, and whether its
queries scan more than they need to.
4. **Your region.** Listings replicated to your cloud region may refresh
later in the day than in the provider's region.
5. **The terms.** Whether you can use the data commercially, share results
   or train models with it.

## F.A.Q.

> [accordion] Is data on the Snowflake Marketplace free?
>
> Some is. Free listings cost only the compute for your queries. Paid listings add the provider's price, and by-request listings are priced in a private offer.

> [accordion] Do I pay storage for Marketplace data?
>
> No. Shared data stays in the provider's account and is mounted into yours as a read-only database, so there's no storage charge. If you copy it into your own tables, that copy is stored and billed like any other table.

> [accordion] What happens when a free trial ends?
>
> You buy the listing to keep access, or access to the paid data stops. Data you copied into your own tables during the trial is yours to manage, subject to the listing's terms.

> [accordion] Can I pay for listings with my Snowflake capacity commitment?
>
> Yes, through Marketplace Capacity Drawdown, if your organization is enrolled and the listing supports it. Otherwise you pay by card or bank transfer.

To see how it works with real data, start a free 30-day trial of any of
[Fruit Stand's datasets](https://fruitstand.dev/index.md), each a flat monthly price after the trial.
